We expertly guide each step; visioning, artist selection, fabrication, and interpretation to make exceptional art common place.

What We Do

  • From the first idea to installation,

Our public art consultancy brings together curatorial expertise, strategic artist engagement, and project delivery excellence. We expertly guide each step; visioning, selection, fabrication, and interpretation, to make exceptional art common place.

  • Curation & Art Strategy

We develop curatorial and strategic frameworks to ensure art is meaningful, enduring, and integrated into the life of a place. Our approach includes curatorial visioning, site analysis, and planning to identify the most impactful opportunities for art.

The in-house CommonSite Assessment Tool supports this process by evaluating a site’s physical, cultural, and community context to guide placement, scale, and form.

  • Engagement & Collaboration

When initiating public art projects, we engage with communities, artists and clients. Whether it’s face-to-face workshops, site walks, surveys, online forums, or a chat over a cup of tea, we listen deeply and build trust. With experience navigating varied networks from local leaders to government bodies, projects are shaped to reflect diverse community voices and values, fostering strong cultural engagement.

  • Artist Commissioning

With a strong knowledge of contemporary art practice and commissioning models, we help select artists whose vision aligns with the site and project brief. We tailor the artist selection process, whether through an open EOI, curated shortlist, or direct commission, to suit each project’s goals and governance requirements. Our process ensures transparency, inclusivity, and artistic excellence.

  • Cultural Care

Art Common curates with care. We honour Indigenous histories, cultural heritage and environmental narratives, embedding these stories into public artworks in meaningful and respectful ways. We work with First Nations consultants and Knowledge Holders to ensure cultural protocols are followed and artworks are appropriately contextualised within Country and place.

  • Project Management

With years of experience managing significant art projects and art exhibitions, we oversee all phases of project execution, from initial planning through to completion. We ensure projects stay on schedule, within budget, and meet predefined artistic standards.

  • Concept & Design

We support artists to translate ideas into resolved artworks within the built and natural environment. This includes feasibility testing, spatial coordination, and collaboration with architects and design teams.

Whether for permanent installation or temporary activation, we help artists integrate their concepts with functionality, safety, site constraints, and while preserving the integrity of the artistic vision.

  • Fabrication & Installation

Art Common oversees fabrication and installation with a sharp eye for detail and coordinates between artist, fabricators, and technical teams to ensure a seamless delivery, whether it’s a large-scale sculpture or a delicate integrated artwork. Working with both artist and suppliers with prototyping, logistics, WH&S compliance to uphold best practice across safety, accessibility, and quality assurance.

  • Regulatory and Compliance.

We navigate various regulatory environments, ensuring that our projects comply with local laws, planning regulations, and safety standards. Risk Management is carefully managed across all aspects of the project.
